Fungal Toenail Remedy

Fungal toenail conditions are caused when fungi penetrate the nail and enter the soft skin under the nail. This can begin as a simple little white or yellow spot under the tip of a finger nail or toenail. These fungi can penetrate deeper, if left untreated, causing the entire nail to turn yellow, increase in thickness and start to peel and eventually stop growing. If undiagnosed and treated, nails can begin to crumble and can become incredibly painful if shoes must be worn. Dr. Lisch is trained to quickly and safely treat fungal nails through one of many treatment options. Some fungal nail issues can be treated with oral or topical medications, and some can be treatment through a new laser treatment procedure. The BlueShine Laser can now be used to treat thick, yellowed, and/or deformed toenails. These findings are a clear indicator of a fungal infection of the toenail. The fungus is usually the same fungus that causes athlete’s foot. It requires immediate attention and can usually not be treated with over-the-counter medications.

BlueShine Laser Treatment of Fungal Toenails

A painless procedure for the treatment of fungal or mycotic nails is now available. It is known as the Impulse BlueShine laser treatment. This new patented laser technology kills the pathogens that cause toenail fungus. The gentle laser light works through the nail and has no side effects on the nail or skin. No anesthesia is needed for this laser treatment of nail fungus, and usually only one treatment is required. You can walk out of the office with your shoes on and can wear nail polish immediately if you so choose. This patented laser is specially designed to shine through your toenail inflicted with the fungi and destroys the specific pathogens embedded in and under your nail causing the infection. The Foot Laser operates in the very tight spectrum of near infrared light on your toe. Unlike CO2 lasers of the past, this laser safely destroys the fungi, molds and bacteria that often cause onychomycosis. The gentle laser light beam has no effect on healthy tissue. There is no discomfort associated with the treatment during or after. This treatment does not harm or affect your activity in any way. A lot of patients are opting for the treatment because of its high success ratio. After one treatment, the nail plate should grow out normally in 6-12 months if there is a healthy nail bed. This result is comparable to the success rate for the oral pill, Lamisil, which you take for three or four months with some risk of side effects. There are no age, health restrictions or limitations. In clinical studies there have been no adverse reactions, injuries, disabilities or known side effects. As you may know, the use of the medications available today for treatment of fungus toenails carry with them possible systemic involvement (commonly the liver and kidney). This laser does not. If you have yellow toenails, or nails with white marks, call Diagnostic Foot Specialists of Victoria, Inc. today to schedule an appointment to remedy the situation.
